HOW TO BE AN EFFECTIVE BUSINESS LEADER

A business leader is the person who is responsible for the way in which the company performs. Business leaders are supposed to be responsible for goal setting, taking risk and motivating the team members to perform at their best. The business leader is the representation of the culture of the company people work for.

A business leader is expected to have to clear goal and cannot risk being an average thinker. They have to think in terms of doing what is best for their team and not just themselves. A great leader has to make a lot of sacrifices, should be disciplined and must have a flair & commitment to excellence. A lot of people do not get qualified for leadership positions as they lack to processes the abovementioned qualities. Anyone with the right skills, regardless of their position in a company or organization, can be a business leader.

Beyond these traits or qualities there are many other essential qualities that play a vital role is shaping the business as well as its leadership. If you are or intend to be a business leader, ensure to have the following qualities to be a great business leader:-

1. CONFIDENCE

People follow a person as leader who is confident enough to stand his ground, second guessing your decision may put you in a position where you may seem vulnerable to the people who follow you as a leader. Be assertive and strong along with a sense of compassion for your team. Once you have given thought to the decision that you want to make, you need to make that decision and stand by it. If you are unsure of yourself, it communicates that you are a weak leader whose decisions need to be questioned. If this were to occur, you will lose the confidence and respect of your team. Likewise you gain their trust and loyalty and these tow traits among the workforce is very rare in the market, so if you find them…keep them.

A confident person not only reflects positivity, they also attract abundance with the positive vibe they have. They could make a dull, gloomy situation into a productive one and get great results in the end. Though it takes a lot of courage to be confident, it is not an uphill task. Given the possibilities a confident leader may bring out, it’s worth a shot. Confidence puts you and your team in a spot where adversity changes into opportunity. And by all means, a good competent leader will never leave a chance to grab an opportunity, as opportunities are very rare and are presented to you very seldom. Confidence is the key to unlock many doors which otherwise believed to be closed for ever.

2. INNOVATIVE OPEN-MINDEDNESS

Innovation is the essence of any business. It creates a competitive advantage for your business, be it a new product, a new form of service, innovation will only separate your business from the competition. The most sort out price in the business world in the top position in the business you are dealing with. The business at the top will be the one which is lead by a team of innovative leaders. Many big companies like Apple Inc. , Facebook,Tesla ..All re a result of innovative thinking and their creators. Late Steve Jobs, Mark Zukerberg and Elon Musk need no introduction.

Open mindedness is also as viable as innovation; it makes you prepared to receive important knowledge that may help grow your business. A lot of valuable ideas go into trash without even being acknowledged, let alone a review, which in-turn makes you miss an opportunity that may take business to the next level. The ability to grow and success is put to halt once the business leader stops being receptive to new information.

Combine both the qualities of innovation and open mindedness; the chances of business growth are immense. These qualities also create an atmosphere where your subordinates develop more ownership towards the work as they feel their ideas are also being considered, and recognition can be a major element in increasing the work output. The people tend to work more freely and enjoy their work rather than considering it tedious. The results they produce are tremendous when they feel ownership towards work. Also, innovativeness give the company a competitive advantage as the consumers tend to be more inclined towards a new product or a service that is different from the one that is available in the market.

3. INSPIRE OTHERS

A good leader must be able to inspire others. A person with a strong vision will always have the ability to inspire as strong vision gives one the ability to  be more enthusiastic which will be infectious that others will come along you. The inspiring ability differentiates between a good leader and a great leader. If you are inspiring enough, many of your weaknesses may be ignored.

Inspired people tend to give more valuable results than their counterparts. Only a good leader with this trait can bring out the best in the workforce which will result in business growth. In the process of inspiration one must not forget to extend love and care to the followers. Always remember that people will go to the end of the earth for you if they know that they are being cared for by you.

A great leader must be able to inspire the team to perform on a high level every single day. Being the best in business is a hard task to be maintained on a regular basis, in order to beat the odds, inspiration will provide the required energy level for your team to perform their best. There will be day that is good and then there will be days that will be bad and extremely challenging, there the leader needs to provide positive inspiration so as to get out of a tough situation.

4. BUILD TRUST

Trust is the foundation of a successful business. When the business operates in the atmosphere of trust, the communication is smoother, efficient and the results are more productive. There’s more collaboration and less fighting; as a result, business goes faster and operations are cheaper. A great leader must work to build an atmosphere of trust by behaving in a consistent, fair manner, such that workers understand the expectations and have room to learn from mistakes. Infusing trust is a daunting task, but once it is established, it can do wonders for your business.

A good leader knows the way how to create trust within the organization. As human beings we all have a tendency to not trust a fellow human being, but there are ways by which trust can be gained slowly but effectively. It will not happen overnight, it will take continuous efforts from the leader of the organization to get to the level where trust is highest in the workforce, within the team and towards the organization. Here emotional intelligence will play a vital role. With emotional intelligence the leader can have a good sense to relate well interpersonally.You can practice appropriate behavior in your relationships and build trust among the team members up. Infusing trust with the help of emotional intelligence,leaders can not only identify other people’s feelings, but they can identify their own feelings that may help to build the factor of trust.

To do so you must have a set of values and share them with your team. They need to know what your company represents so that they know they have a specific set of standards that guide their actions. When there are values in place, it reduces bad behavior and promotes doing things the right way.

5. TREAT PEOPLE WELL

The way you treat people within your organization is directly connected with the growth of your business. People should be always be your biggest asset. If you treat your employees well they will also be compelled to work towards your goal fulfilment. Do remember, that the people who work for the accomplishment of your goals have their own goals themselves. It might not be big as your but for them it might be the world.Pour back into your team. Be willing to support their dreams and put them into positions where they can grow.

A well-treated employee will always give his best and the business will not have to worry about attrition rather it can focus its resources on what more important, its business. When people are treated well, they will stick to the organization and their growth will be directly connected to the company’s growth which will make them work happily towards the goal achievement. Many businesses after initial success, tend lose focus on employee benefits as they consider them to be replaceable. This is not a good practice as this will make the quality workforce go out of your organization and the effort and resource you have put to make them an asset will be utilized by your competitor.

Now day’s companies have a dedicated department whose sole job is to focus on employee welfare only. These are the companies that are bending the rules established by earlier businesses and are not only proving themselves right abut are also inspiring others to follow the same footsteps.

6. PERSEVERANCE

A great leader knows that what’s more important than anything else in the world is the ability to persevere–even when things go wrong. Perseverance is a willingness to set your mind with the determination that you will accomplish what you set out to do, and you’ll do it with a positive attitude. Perseverance is the strength of character to push through when you would rather just close the door, cash it out, and go get a drink.You must remain committed to your vision and goals no matter what challenges you face. If you give up too soon, you may miss the opportunity that was right in front of you had you continued going. The moment you give up, is the moment your competition receives the opportunity you could have attained had you remain persistent.

7. LISTEN TO BOTH SIDES OF THE ARGUMENT

An effective leader is always an active listener. It can be imprudent to only listen to those who share your background and opinions. Active listening broadens your horizon as one may get valuable input even from a child sometimes. Don’t be biased towards a particular set of people in your organization, remember that each member has their own pro and cons and should be acknowledged accordingly. Sometime what may seem correct to you may be the other way round; this could be overcome by listening to both sides of the argument and then decide according to your intellect what may be good and what may be bad.

8. TREAT PEOPLE EQUALLY AND BE FAIR

Although it is an obvious statement, many leaders and managers tend to pick their favourites. Even if you are close friends with someone on your team, it doesn’t give you the right to be totally permissive to them while throwing most of the work to others. A good leader knows how to treat people at work by rewarding the deserving and helping the one who may be not the top performers. Generally, organizations tend to loose a good pool of talent due to the management not being fair to them. Try to pick and promote leaders from within rather than hiring a new person and make that person a boss.

9. NEVER STOP LEARNING AND BE CURIOUS ALWAYS

A successful businessperson is aware that the world is constantly changing and evolving. You should follow the pace of change in constantly doing research and keeping yourself and your team up to date with all happenings around you. You should also develop your skills and the skills of your employees so everyone becomes a life-long learner. Being up to date will help you and your team taking the initiative before others do. It will also soften the weight of competition, which will lead your company to the top in the world of business.“Millions saw the apple fall, but only Newton asked why.” Curiosity is one of the main traits of a good leader. Stay passionate, curious, and committed to learning something new.

10. COMMUNICATION

Effective communication is vital in any business and a strong leader must possess those skills. They should have the ability to be consistently clear, whether it’s setting deadlines, expressing company needs or showing teams how things are done. It also helps with employee encouragement and boosting morale. Good leaders are devoted to listening to their team members, customers, and shareholders. It might come as a shock, but they’re not experts at everything! They know this, and also know that they will have a more successful business by getting advice and insight from their employees. Without knowing how to communicate your goals among the team, it will not be accomplished.Communication also requires you to listen as well, so that you can better assist your team in providing them with the environment and resources that get their jobs done.

11. BREAKING OLD TRADITIONS

It’s easy for companies to exhaust processes and habits without questioning whether it’s still the most effective means of operating. Good leaders can recognise when methods have become tired and require innovation. Overdue change can inject life into an organisation and quicken the pace. At the same time, good leaders need to know how to take calculated risks when it comes to driving innovation. They’re careful to avoid leading the company into troubled waters. This involves taking calculated risks as well, which the traditional methods may not approve of.
